Shenandoah

I have always found the Shenandoah and the other parts of the Appalachian Mountains beautiful. They are old maountians that have been worn down over time but have a lot of character.




On this trip we camped at Big Medow Campground and took a shot hike to Dark Hollow Falls. The Story of the Forest Trail (Nature trail) was an easy enjoyable hike to the Dark Hollow Falls trail head.





Steps One Steps Two

I really liked these different sets of steps on the trail. The light was coming through the trees in an interesting way and the rustic man made aspect of them in the forest also grabbed my attention.

In 1933 Big Meadow was one of two Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps built for President Roosevelt's public works program.  These trails where built by the young men employed by this program and nice to see them still in use today. 

One of the nice things about this park are the great over looks along the road. You can get some great views from these over looks.

Meadow Farm - circa.. 1810 Kit: D5100 Canon 28mm 3.5 with Fotodiox Adapter The Set up This was one of my fist attempts at using this 1960/70 Canon 28mm 1.2 lens I got from my father. To mount this to my Nikon DLSR I used a Fotodiox adaptor. I had learned from my outing with the 55mm lens and I think I did better on the focus. The Process I have visited this park many times over the years and I really enjoy it. They have lots of events and trails to hike and or bike on. My son and I, and our two little dogs, were just out for a walk and i brought my camera to test out how well I was learning zone focusing and how to use this vintage lenses over all. The Issues I had less issues this trip than the previous one.. except I had noticed to spots on my sensor. So I cleaned it and didn't do a very good job. I actually made it worse. River Adjacent

These images are actually not from a dog walk. I had some time down by the river and was able to take a few shots. Are you feeling home sick? Kit: Nikon18-200mm Lens on Nikon D5100 This walk way down to one of the many trail systems around the James River looked cool and had some interesting paining on it. I thought it was a nice little miniseries of images. I should probably try to get more of these as I continue. I had taken a few shots of this location earlier in the morning and didn't think I did a good job with the focus. So when I went back out I changed some settings and tried again. This guy walked through my shot so I waited form him to get into a good spot and incorporated him in instead of trying to avoid people like I usually do. I really like these trees. New Orleans

When I first went down to New Orleans I thought it would be a good opportunity to practice Street Photography. While I was taking the photos I was thinking I would title this post "Street Photography: Art or Snapshots of Strangers?". Not that I don't think Street photography is art I am just not sure my street photography is art. I think you need to have the time to get the "Moment" in street photography and then the skills to have the correct settings and composition when said moment happens.
