Along the James River Plus One More

Image
The first eight of these images are from along the James River, the last one I think is from a different place completely but was mixed in with these images. So I just processed it with them and here we are. I really like the contrast between the two different trees and how they have grown together.

I really the angles of the light buildings with the dark sky above.

Abandoned Building...

Image
... abandoned images. This is one of those times where you see something you want to stop and take a picture but don't. Luckily I did have the opportunity to drive by this old building and I stopped. Unfortunately then it turned into one of those times you get home and get the photos you are so excited about and you don't like them as much as you thought you would. I did process them and post some at the time I took them. Now it is several years later and I have revisited them.  This shot unparticular I thought would be really cool at the time I was taking it but was not happy with my original results. I think I like this version better.

High Bridge

This was another set of images I wanted to edit in black and white. However somewhere in the process I like this color on these images. I think it has that old film look. personally I don't like to add grain to my digital images like many do fir the film look. I think one reason is my camera is old enough there is enough pixilation and digital noise I don't need to add more to the images. the other is an artistic preference and dilemma. Processing images at all changes them from the "reality" of the original capture, but that isn't reality either.  Between the 2D nature of photography, the limited color range of sensors and or film and controlling how much light comes in the camera you are altering how the images looks to the human eye. So how much I am willing to alter the original look of a scene varies on the image and probably my mood at the time of the shot or processing.  And sometimes I can't decide during processing either.

Freinds

This is an old image from Chic's Beach. I like the dramatic black and white processing in this image.

Crabtree Falls

I have gone back and forth on this first image. In the end I decided I like it because it makes me want to walk in to the woods. I fell the fading light in the opening in the trees entices the viewer to walk in and take a hike I originally wanted to edit theses as black and white images but decided to keep them in color.

The Right Direction

I have always found compasses interesting but this one is a little more elaborate then a run of the mill compass as well as the fact that it belonged to my gather.   I like the old metal and lather against the wood grain.
